My dad’s saline proclivities meant his 65th birthday was less about buying some slippers and a pipe and more about the single handed Jester Challenge Trans-Atlantic Yacht Race, ahem, Adventure from Plymouth, UK, to Newport, Rode Island. I designed this tracking system to harvest the regular SPOT GPS messages he emailed and plot them on a Google Map, together with various progress statistics. Partly as a coding challenge. Mostly to keep my mind off worrying about him.
